Save electricity and money with these tips.
Electricity can end up costing you an arm and a leg if you own your own accommodation – but there are a few ways in which you can save a buck or two, and become a little more eco-friendly.
1. Keep your fridge and freezer full
Refrigerators and freezers operate at top efficiency when they’re full, as there is less empty space to keep cool. Keeping your fridge and freezer full will make sure that you’re always prepared, and will cut down on electricity costs. Make sure to keep a small amount of space between objects to allow the cool air to flow.
2. Change your lighting
Energy saving lightbulbs are readily available from any hardware store, and can last up to 8 times longer than non-energy saving lightbulbs. Be warned the light may be harsher and whiter than other lightbulbs, an easy way to combat this is by changing your lampshades to a warmer colour. Also consider LED lights in place of fairy lights, and solar lights in place of garden lights.
3. Water Heating
Now, we all know that when it comes to hospitality hot water is a must. But that doesn’t mean you need to set your geyser to full. Setting it at a pre-set maximum of 60°C will make sure that while the water still kills bacteria, you are not wasting electricity.
