A Nigerian tourist returns to her hotel, shopping in hand

The Welcome SA team has had some early mornings and late evenings this week as we ventured into different parts of Johannesburg, shooting our latest stills and video footage.

The scenarios filmed included a Nigerian tourist returning to her hotel after a day of shopping, three Chinese travellers being greeted by their tour operator at the Gautrain station, a young Brazilian ordering a coffee, and an American couple sampling shisa nyama – local fare at its best.

“We wanted to depict scenarios that every tourist could relate to,” says Aneshree Rambally, who heads up the Welcome South Africa initiative, “and to show what a difference it makes when the South Africans helping these tourists are friendly and helpful. Throughout our shoots, we were struck by how contagious a simple smile can be. Our smiling concierges, tour guides, baristas and braaimasters not only had our tourists smiling, but the film crew and onlookers as well.”

Take a look at some of our behind-the-scenes photographs to get an idea of what we have been up to, and keep an eye out for the images and videos coming your way soon.
