From welcome to goodbye, our #INDABA2016 story

  • 27 May 2016

It’s been three short weeks since the 2016 Tourism INDABA took place in the sunshine city of Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal. For each of the delegates attending, the Welcome South Africa team was there to ensure that the welcome they received was just as warm as the coastal weather (although the weather was a bit dreary for sunny old Durban).

From the moment delegates landed at King Shaka airport, they could feel the excitement in the air as they were greeted by unique traditional singers and dancers.

Once #INDABA2016 attendees registered, the treats continued with each person receiving a colourful Welcome hamper filled with all the South African essentials, from sunscreen to ice tea to chocolates.

At INDABA itself, the various activations embodied the spirit of being welcoming; with everything from a complimentary shoe-shine service to a convenient cellphone recharge station. For Mother’s Day (which fell on the Sunday), all the moms were pampered with an express manicure and luxurious gift bag.

Exhibitors who were spotted wearing their Welcome pin, and who were being particularly friendly to guests, were automatically entered into a competition to win an iPad.

In the end, the warmth and friendliness experienced by everyone attending #INDABA2016, clearly demonstrated why it has become one of the top three “must visit” events of its kind on the global tourism calendar. We can’t wait to see you next year!
