Build your business with Instagram

  • 20 November 2015

With its sweeping views and dramatic landscapes - South Africa is one of the most scenic countries in the world. Instagram, the mobile photo sharing platform, allows you to use this to your advantage when selling your business.

When people are searching for somewhere to stay or something to do – they will often search through social media. Instagram, which is the fastest growing social media worldwide, allows you to sell yourself using more than words. So, how do you even begin?

  1. Set up an account

Make sure your name is very specific. If you own the Blue Bird Hotel, that’s what you should call yourself. Then use your bio to describe yourself further. What works best is if you put in your location, the service you provide and a link to your website.

  1. Frame your photos

Instagram has filters and photo-editing tools which allow you to create beautiful images of your business. Think about what others would like to see – the views, the food, the beautiful nature around you – then snap and post.

  1. Use hashtags

Hashtagging is how people search in Instagram, so if you hashtag right it makes you easier to find. So, if The Blue Bird Hotel posted a photo of their ocean view they would use the hashtags - #BeachGetaway #CityBreak #SATourism. Another handy hint would be to hashtag companies which may promote you, like us - #WelcomeSA.

  1. Repost (or Regram) other users photos

By searching your own location and hashtag you can see photos that your patrons have taken with you. Reposting these is like sharing a positive photo review. Also make sure to comment on their photo to say thank you for the mention.
